But, as I watched my son Parker suffer, I learned more, and I keep trying every day to understand what he goes through. But all this talk of being gender nonbinary, with young people using plural pronouns like ‘they” instead of “he” or “she” may be a bridge too far. “I just don’t get it,” he said. “Maybe it’s the old man in me coming out, and I don’t wish anybody ill, but this just seems like an artificial layer of being politically correct. In this day and age, with so much other (stuff) raining down on us, so many injustices and prejudices, this whole thing seems incredibly frivolous.”

About 0.7% of the U.S. adult population is transgender, a 2022 Gallup poll found, and the number of LGBTQ-identifying adults is at a record high. As we begin to learn more about the Colorado Springs shooting and the community mourns those who lost their lives and were injured at Club Q, some have questions about how to support their LGBTQ+ loved ones. The best first step is to learn about the community. Asking your LGBTQ+ friends and family is an option, but be mindful of placing the burden of your education on others when there are so many resources at your disposal.

When the names of those shot to death in a Colorado Springs LGBTQ bar were read at a police news conference Monday, one thing stood out from the procedure that has become routine in a nation plagued by mass shootings: The police chief stated the pronouns of the deceased. “Kelly Loving. Kelly’s pronouns are she/her. Daniel Aston. Daniel’s pronouns are he/him. Derrick Rump. Derrick’s pronouns are he/him,” and so on, went Chief Adrian Vasquez.

Nevada passes sweeping version of Equal Rights Amendment
Nevada voters have adopted what is widely considered the most comprehensive state version of the Equal Rights Amendment in the nation, a sweeping update that puts protections in the state Constitution for people who have historically been marginalized. Nevada’s ERA amends the state Constitution to ensure equal rights for all, “regardless of race, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, ancestry, or national origin.”
A transgender beauty influencer was put in a men's jail after her arrest in Miami
Nikita Dragun, an influencer and content creator, was arrested and held in a men's unit of a Miami jail this week, court records show. Dragun, who is a transgender woman, creates content on YouTube (her videos have well over 250 million views) and Instagram (where she has 9 million followers). She discusses her gender identity openly and covers her lifestyle and beauty tricks in her videos. She also founded a makeup company called Dragun Beauty.

During the 2022 midterm election campaign, Republican public officials targeted transgender rights in what NPR and other news media have called the new front in the culture wars. Last month’s Public Religion Research Institute’s American Values Survey appears to offer confirmation, finding increased polarization on all measures of LGBTQ rights. ‘Peppa Pig’ debuts lesbian polar bear couple
A popular British children’s cartoon has added a same-sex polar bear couple to its show. A new episode of “Peppa Pig,” titled “Families”, premiered on Channel 5 on Tuesday. In the episode, a polar bear cub is seen speaking about her lesbian parents to her class. “I’m Penny Polar Bear. I live with my mommy and my other mommy,” the cartoon character explains to her classmates. “One mommy is a doctor and one mommy cooks spaghetti. I love spaghetti,” the child says while drawing a portrait of her family.
